Indoor Cricket is the fastest and most popular indoor sport in Melbourne with competitions catering for beginners right through to experienced players in Men’s and Mixed. Indoor Cricket is a modified version of Outdoor Cricket played on a fully carpeted and netted court. Therefore, most of the rules are the same except for some slight variations which make everyone become more involved in the game. Here are a few of the more common ones you should know.

Indoor Cricket Rules

  • Teams consist of 8 players (must have a minimum of 6 players)
    • In the case of mixed cricket there can be no more than 4 males.
  • Games run for 2 x 16 over innings with the result depending on which team has scored the most amount of runs.
  • All players must bat in pairs for 4 overs and bowl 2 overs each.
  • Runs are scored by running between the wickets as well as hitting the ball into the scoring zones.
  • The ball is always live except when a wicket falls, the end of an over or if the umpire calls ‘dead ball’.
  • All players must wear sporting attire (i.e. Shorts, runners, tracksuit) & matching coloured T-shirts. No singlets, denim or sleeveless shirts.
  • Any bad behavior, language or organisation will not be tolerated and remember the umpire’s decision is final.
